What's the difference between a balance bike and a pedal bike?

  • A balance bike is usually introduced to a child before moving onto a pedal bike. It encourages the child to gain confidence and practise coordination, balance and steering, likely  reducing the need for stabilisers when moving onto a pedal bike.  Balance bike has no pedals, chainsets or gears, the child simply moves using their feet, allowing them to move at their own pace in their own time.

What age are balance bikes suitable from?

  • Typically balance bikes are aimed at children between the ages of 2-4 years old, however some children continue to ride them comfortably until they are 6 or 7 years old.
